I have decided to reassemble my project with as many stainless steel fasteners as possible.  I especially want to use stainless on the nuts and bolts that need to be worked on more often.  Hey, nobody every said I was not obsessive.   So I  put together a list of fasteners I want, and decided to share it in case anyone wants to know.

Notes on understanding size numbers:
Of course, all numbers are metric and are listed "diameter X  length".  The standard pitch is course. Pitch is usually listed only when it is fine pitch.  These are the standard VW pitches:

M3 - 0.5 pitch (ISO coarse)
M4 - 0.7 pitch (ISO coarse)
M5 - 0.8 pitch (ISO coarse)
M6 - 1.0 pitch (ISO coarse)
M8 - 1.25 pitch (ISO coarse)
M10 - 1.5 pitch (ISO coarse)
M12 - both 1.75 pitch (ISO coarse) and 1.5 pitch (non-ISO fine)

If pitch is listed it is the middle number (D x P x L).

If listed, the second number on washers is the outer diameter.

I have added "high strength" as my own concern to use something stronger than the usual grade if available. Hopefully this will be a metric grade of 8.8, US (SAE)   grade of 5, or better.

What do the letters like M, AM, B, J, mean?  I think M means metric course thread and  MF means metric fine thread.  As for the other letters, I am not sure what they mean, but I have left them in, in case they have some meaning.  If anyone knows what these are, please let me know.

Bolts are DIN 931 unless otherwise indicated.

What is not on this list:
This list is not a complete list of fasteners, just the ones I want.  I pretty much made this up by going through the parts book.  I have sometimes included the VW part or hardware number, especially where the parts book does not indicate the thread size.  Note that I am making at least the following modifications,

'67 front end
'67 tranny and redux boxes
plastic flex heater hose
'67 brake MC  and  lines

I have also not included fasteners for the assembly of major components such as the engine and transmission.

I got a good start by purchasing kits from Henry at Volks-dragon out of Orange CA (phone: 714-997-9796 email: vdragon@concentric.net).   All the fasteners came clearly labeled, and I was very pleased with the kits he sells.  I received the following from the more standard kits Henry carries:

pop-out window fasteners (to assemble & attach window & catch)
